The family of
Harrison Kye Chaney
and
Cora ReedHarrison Kye Chaney, called "Bud," was evidently named for an uncle and his father. His mother had a brother named General Harrison Goad. (In fact, most of his siblings were apparently named for members of his mother's family.) His father, Hezekiah, was known as "Kye." "Bud" is sometimes recorded as H. K. Chaney, Jr., and his father's tombstone is engraved H. K. Chaney but there is no evidence that the initials stood for anything other than "Hezekiah" and his nickname "Kye."
Little is documented concerning Bud's parents. His father, Kye, had three brothers and, possibly, one sister. A tradition in the family of Kye's eldest brother Robert's holds that their father was also named Robert but nothing has been found to verify this. Kye's mother appeared in the 1860 and 1870 census. She was named Sarah A., born in North Carolina, about 1795. No information on their deaths and burials has been discovered.
Bud's mother was Fanny Goad although some later records show it as Goode. There is no doubt, however, that it is GOAD. She first appeared in the 1850 census of Walker County, Georgia. Her complete name is uncertain. Her tombstone records her as L. P. Chaney wife of H. K. Chaney. In various census records she is shown as Perlinia, Fanny or Frances. Her name seems to best be recorded as L. Paulina Frances "Fanny" Goad. Her father was Ephraim Goad, a blacksmith, but the identity of his parents is uncertain. Her mother was Susannah W. Jester whose Spencer lineage can be traced back to the settlement of Jamestown or soon thereafter.

Cora Reed, called "Big Ma" or "Big Mama," was a fraternal twin. Her twin sister, Ora, married Charles Breeding and lived near McGregor, McLennan Co., Texas. Her father was Andrew Jackson Reed, son of Joseph Reed and Elvira Perkins. Her mother was Dorcas Elizabeth Springfield, daughter of Aaron Springfield and Emmaline Rollins.

Moody Cemetery
Moody, McLennan County, TexasThe Moody Cemetery is probably the single most important burial site for the family. Not only are immediate family members interred there but many relatives-by-marriage.
Bud and Cora are buried in Moody cemetery as are some of their children and grandchildren. Also buried there are Bud's parents, H. K. "Kye" Chaney & L. Paulina "Fanny" Goad. The burial sites of Cora's parents, Andrew Jackson Reed & Dorcas Elizabeth Reed, can be visited there. Dorcas Elizabeth's mother, Emaline Rollins Springfield Johnson, is also buried there. She married Ransom Johnson after Aaron Springfield's death and moved from Georgia with the rest of the Reeds at the end of the 1880s.
